Phoenix and Ashes, by Mercedes Lackey
Mercedes Lackey is so fluffy that reading her makes me feel 13 again, almost without fail. But in the good way. Retelling of Cinderella set during WW1, with magic in. I quite enjoyed it.

Clanbook: Toreador, by Steven C. Brown
This was kind of twee but I liked the character profiles a lot.

Clanbook: Malkavian, by Daniel Greenberg
Entertaining - it reminded me of existentialism class in a lot of ways.

Writing With Intent, by Margaret Atwood
This volume collects her essays, reviews, and other short nonfiction pieces from the early eighties through 2005. I loved this book. I seem to always be bearing some sort of grudge against Ms. Atwood for vague and possibly silly reasons, then finding one of her books, gleefully gobbling it up, and then going back to being vaguely grudgeful for a couple of years. Maybe my brain is testing out a new strategy for not running out of an author's books or something.

American Splendor, by Harvey Pekar
I bought this after watching the movie based on his comics, so a lot of the material was familiar (great movie, by the way). But I still dug the book. However I try to describe it, the description seems to come out sounding dull though - so let me just say it was good! Very good! I had trouble putting it down when I was supposed to be doing other things.

Eric, by Terry Pratchett
Enh, not one of his most impressive novels. It was fun, it was forgettable.

Summer Doorways, by W. S. Merwin
Hm. I thought this was going to be a 'post WW2, young poet on the rise flits about cities and literary circles of Europe, wacky hijinks ensue' sort of book for some reason. It was nothing like that. Well, it was post WW2. That's about it. This is a very measured, precise, dreamlike little book and I appreciated it a great deal. The complete lack of dialogue feels strange. But the rhythms are perfect.

The Tremere clanbook would've been better if they gave new paths of thaumaturgy and a merit or two. Otherwise, snoozefest.
