Okay, if this was truly representative of the best of 1975, I'm rather grateful I didn't come into this world for a couple years after that. Also, I was kind of shocked by how many of the stories included were either by Carter or by famous greats that died and had a piece of work finished up by Carter posthumously. And she was so unapologetic about it! Which was kind of refreshing, since editors these days either recuse themselves from consideration or feel the need to make repeated justifications for the inclusions. Further note: who knew that Marion Zimmer Bradley was writing Tolkien fanfic in the 70s?!? Mocking aside, it was kind of interesting to see how the tropes have shifted since then. And there were a few gems and a few not-quite-gems amid the 'wtf people actually LIKED this?' stuff. Worth reading for entertainment value, if not for quality.
