The Blank Slate, by Steven Pinker
May. 20th, 2004 06:53 pmThis book managed to intrigue, delight, irritate, and infuriate me by turns. With a nice side of helping of "Well, yes, Steven, of course that part makes sense - but haven't you thought about how the exact same method you're using can get you to this other thing? You know, the thing you just dismissed without really paying attention?" There was some very insightful stuff in here but there were also some frustrating misrepresentations. Which makes me wonder, since he's mostly out of my field a lot of the time, how many misrepresentations I didn't catch.
