Where a Tall Tree Stands, by Arnold Lobel et al
You might think that stuffing several award-winning authors into a single picture book, smaller and lighter and more compact than each individual story would be on its own, would be *better*. But it is not. The pictures were too small and all the visual flow of the text was gone. Better than nothing, not better than the real books would have been. Textbooks. Sigh. Even at the K-3 level, they manage to be annoying.

The Salamander Room, by Anne Mazer, illustrated by Steve Johnson and Lou Fancher
This picture book was a proper large size, and it was absolutely lovely, both visuals and meaning. Read it twice in a row, only taking it out of my library because I feel like the kids at the school it is going to will need it more than I do.

Salamander Room is so good. Wish I could put it in every library.
