Path of the Eclipse, by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro
Gosh, it's been so long since I read these that I barely remember 'em. *ponders* Oh, right. I loved parts of this and found parts of it ... not quite offensive, but really dated. Even though it's historical fiction, it's fairly obvious from how parts of it talk about non-Western cultures that it was written 30 years ago. (Aside: OMG, "written in the early 80s = written 30 years ago". I feel old.)

The Tale of Applebeck Orchard, by Susan Wittig Albert
This was charming, and the tweeness problem has been dialed back.. Love love love the badgers.

Losers in Space, by John Barnes
Fun! The whole "putting the infodumps into separate sections thing" is a bit weird. For one thing, there were still some infodumps in the main text. For another, I found myself skipping the infodumps not because I don't like infodumps (I so do), but because I already knew the info in them, or had inferred it from the story. Anyway, it was a good yarn. <3 John Barnes.

Charles Knight: The Artist Who Saw Through Time, by Richard Milner
Oh, Charles Knight. I spent my childhood reading books about science (paleontology, biology, etc.) that were written in the 70s, and they all used (public domain) Charles Knight paintings as illustrations. So reading this left me having many flashbacks to being 5. Also, the text is very readable and interesting - although the art itself is far more powerful.

Mr. Hornaday's War, by Stefan Bechtel (e-ARC)
I'd never heard of Charles Hornaday before reading this book, but I'm so glad I read it! A fascinating, flawed, and complex individual, exactly the sort of person I like to read about. The biology/conservation content is also top-notch.
