Why I Hate Canadians, by Will Ferguson
This book is rougher than his later writings, but just as appealing. If you called it, "Why I Hate Canadians, Love Canadians, and Exhort Canadians to Live Up to Our Mighty Ideals in More Practical Ways," it'd be a more accurate (though less punchy) title. And bonus points for the essay on Spirit of a Nation, which brought back ALL kinds of memories of sitting on the concrete steps/bleachers behind the Confederation Centre...

Travels With Herodotus, by Ryszard Kapuscinski
Kinda fragmented or something; I don't usually put his stuff down with that much ease. On the other hand, large parts of it were absolutely lovely and/or fascinating and I really really want to read me some Herodotus now. Maybe once I finally finish with Euripides ...

Wastelands: Tales of the Apocalypse, edited by John Joseph Adams
This collection was startlingly good. I mean, I really dig on post-apocalyptic fiction so I expected to enjoy myself, despite my frequently-mentioned grumpiness about anthologies in general ... but I don't think there was a single 'meh' story in here. And certainly not any BAD ones. There were a couple I've read before, but of the caliber that I don't mind rereading. And then when I was all done with the stories, I discovered a list of good apocalyptic fiction (novels mostly - and mostly previously unread by yrs truly) in the back! Squee! I think I should read The Rift this summer.
