poking around

This afternoon, it took me an hour and a quarter to walk a stretch of creek that usually takes forty-five minutes. I was poking around everywhere looking for beaver sign. Didn't see Ma or Pa Beaver, or find their lodge, but I did find:
- several sandy banks I hadn't chugged through the brush to find before
- a pair of some kind of bird I've never actually seen before and don't think I could pick out of a bird book
- many beaver-gnawed stumps
- a few places where they've been adding to the already-existing rock dams
- a spot where there had been many ducks, a raccoon, and a dog, within the last 24 hours

A successful jaunt.

Plus at the end of it there were:
- extra library books to pick up (yay, Bonk finally came in)
- very yummy Korean BBQ with birdmojo, at that place we've been meaning to go to for ... um ... at least 6 years
- owner of Korean BBQ, who was an extremely adorable elegant grandma type who let me have FOUR pots of barleycorn tea (but demurred on the recipe, claiming the other two things in there, she doesn't know the English words for)

PS In future, if I really want to generate discussion on a post, I shall be sure to mention mink!

See, what happened was the minks broke into the beaver's lodge and ate the little beavers, forcing Ma and Pa beaver to flee for their lives!

nooooooooooooooo. I saw beaver tracks today and they were pretty fresh! And in a totally different part of the ... oh, crap, this actually supports your theory.
