Eudaemonic Pie is sort of about roulette, and sort of about the early days of hacking, and sort of about idealistic physics students trying to live in a functional commune, and sort of about those students using computers and Newtonian physics to predict roulette outcomes, and sort of not really about any of those things. Anyway, it's awfully good and xmurf was very right to recommend it to me.

Chris Crutcher is a writer of Young Adult Problem Novels, except they're particularly good. Especially Chinese Handcuffs and Whale Talk. Anyway, King of the Mild Frontier is his autobiography and I really enjoyed reading about his youth and seeing a bit of the process whereby his life and the lives of those around him were transmuted into fiction.
