maribouSo, since almost all my books are now in boxes, I decided I was allowed off library probation - since the purpose of library probation was to get me to read more books so they wouldn't have to go in boxes.
And now I have in my temporary possession :
1 BEYOND REMEMBERING: THE COLLECTED POEMS OF AL PURDY-ILL
Al Purdy is one of the Canadian poets I've been re-obsessed with lately. This is a Really Really Thick Book and I'm taking my time with it.
2 The beekeeper's apprentice [sound recording] - King, Laurie R.

randomdreams and eeyorerin for recommending it), but it's taking FOREVER to listen to, no time for sewing lately.
3 The afterword - Bryan, Mike.
I picked this off the shelf very randomly and decided that any novel good enough for Karen Armstrong is good enough for me. Short, not much of a commitment involved in trying it. I have a vague impression it'll be a bit like Sophie's World, only without the prepubescent girl and with theology bits instead of philosophy bits.
4 Let's all kill Constance : a novel - Bradbury, Ray, 1920-
It's been far too long since I had me some Bradbury.
5 Alexandria : in which the extraordinary correspondence of Griffin & Sabine unfolds - Bantock, Nick.
Bantock is a guaranteed escape for me. This came out in OCTOBER! I work in a BOOKSTORE! How'd I not notice?
6 The Philip K. Dick reader - Dick, Philip K.
Collected short stories. See above re: Bradbury.
7 Guilty pleasures - Hamilton, Laurell K.
A reread. I was reminded while talking toxmurf last night that I've been meaning to read the first few of these over again and see if I do like them better than the last few, or if I just think I do. And, you know, brain-resting book, since I've read it AND it's fluffy. Actually, this bunch of books is very heavy on the brain-resting. Probably because I'm still trying to chew my way through a military historian's book on the Six Day war in addition to all the other stuff that's going on.
8 The Guin Saga. Book one, The leopard mask Kurimoto, Kaoru, 1953-
Sometimes you find a book on the shelf that is so strange you have no choice but to take it home and examine it further. Heroic Fantasy, it says it is. Panther-headed boy and stuff. According to the net, I only want to read the first 16 of the 89 or so books in this series. Since only the first 3 have release dates on Amazon, it shouldn't be an issue any time soon.
9 After the quake : stories Murakami, Haruki, 1949-
Yay! Murakami.
