There were a few excellent stories in this collection, and the rest left me cold. I really liked Brad Reynolds', and must check out more of his writing. It's weird, but sometimes I think I kind of read something I won't like too much to clean my palate between books that entrance me. Strange. Anyway, suited the purpose and had some interesting stuff. I think part of the problem is that I am not very familiar with 'the mystery short story' and so the standard conventions sit oddly with me.

Almost French, by Sarah Turnbull
An excellent memoir about moving from Sydney to Paris, more or less by accident, and then settling there. I really enjoyed this book - I think hearing about living in Europe from an Australian perspective, rather than the Canadian or American perspective I'm used to, was a refreshing new twist. And the author's narrative voice is extremely engaging. I did get frustrated with the constant journalistic present tense, which felt muddly - but it was a minor problem, and certainly did not ruin the book's otherwise sterling quality.

A very satisfying collection of YA fantasy and SF which I found absolutely delightful (no surprise as about 3/4 of the authors included were already among my favorites). I was a bit taken aback by the Beerbohm- or Kafka-esque Lloyd Alexander story, but in a good way.

The Last Witchfinder, by James Morrow
If this book was a person, I would be seriously contemplating bigamy. Wow. One of those rare and wonderful experiences where I found myself, around 100 pages from the end, both unable to put the book down and unwilling to have the book be over, so I ended up doing other things with the book literally in my lap... I loved this book.
